My Review of Gone Girl

I always say I hate predictable scripts, that is until I saw Gone Girl. Ironically, I was offended by the roller-coaster of drama I was taken on. The sequence of events, were the farthest from my psyche. If eerie and unpredictable were Gone Girl's goals, kudos to a job well done. Now let me paint this picture for you. Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike), recipient of a trust fund and inspiration for her parents children's book appears to be missing. Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) returns home on their 5th anniversary to find furniture in disarray, but no Amy. Nick's character was introduced as nonchalant and laid-back. Even when questioned by detectives his sense of urgency to find his wife was nonexistent. Right away, one would think he must of done it. For a brief second, I thought the same. Then I thought, that's too obvious. There has to be something else going on. Here's the kicker. Amy had a diary, which entailed her amazing life with Nick in the beginning. In the midst of transitioning their lives from New York to Missouri, Nick's demeanor changed for the worse. Okay, so you're half way there to getting this. But I'm about to confuse everything I told you. Those diary entries, were just that. The visuals the movie gives to correspond to the entries were brilliant. You see a terrified Amy and malevolent Nick. And the accusations of him being responsible for her disappearance must be true. Wrong! When Nick gets wind that he is in fact being framed, so does the audience. We are then introduced to the infamous ride to looneyville. And that's Amy, who tells the audience exactly how to frame your husband. All of the clues and evidence left at the crime scene was strategically placed there. The diary entries were written within a 24 hour span. Amy cut and dyed her hair, rented a car and hid out waiting for the right time to do what? Kill herself! To complete the plan to frame Nick and have him convicted. Remember, you need a body to seal the deal. You still with me? Amy knew of Nick's affair. She knew that on their 5th anniversary he would divorce her. And refused to bare the hurt and embarrassment, so she wanted him to rot. Not in jail people, but in hell. She knew that if convicted, he would possibly receive the death penalty. Oddly enough this master plan fell to pieces when she was robbed and forced to devise a new plan. Thank goodness for Nick he didn't receive the death penalty through the justice system, but through Amy's system. I'm not going to tell you how, but just know what this woman did to return home, had me on edge. I want you to watch this movie, please do. The ending had me staring at the screen at least 10 minutes after it was over.
